Solar Powered Heating

Unsorted info about options for solar-powered heating. Watch this space.
CAMP has a couple 8x8' solar water-heating panels sitting in garage, probably enough capacity for the apartment. (Big heavy things, they are.) We'll will need some sort of crane to raise to roof.
Link for a (very) simple solar-powered heating contraption. Nifty.

Also, attached please find some propaganda from the Energy Star folks about reducing HVAC costs.

Passive solar heater
Seen at fair held by St. Louis Renewable Energy Fair. Below is one of Roe Snyder's passive solar heaters. The black cylinders are aluminum soda cans filled with sand and painted black. The cans provide a substantial amount of thermal mass, such that they can radiate their stored heat for hours after the sun goes down.
This device has openings and a fan in the rear that pulls in air, pushes it over the cans, and forces it back out (after being heated by the cans).
Mr. Snyder said this heater would approach 300F internal temperature after sitting in the sun all day, and then comfortably heat approx 1000 sq. ft. of interior space all night long. .

Hi ben,
Just found your site by typing in "ROE SNYDER" in YAHOO.
I want you to know that I am the one who came up with the idea of using aluminum cans painted black, filled with sand back in the mid nineties.
The temperature of the seventy-seven can heater actually got up to 319 degrees,
a photo of the digital thermometer showing this, I gave to Larry Rice at the MoREC.
It has been a REAL! pleasure seeing something of mine on a website.
Have a good SOLAR experience.
Please feel free to contact me if you want further information.
VTY,
Roe Snyder
