Never Meaning No Harm
New works by: Eric Gibbons and Ryan Lauderdale, two Texas boys that
chemistry gave a potion of rare flake

Exhibition February 9 - 26, 2007
Opening Reception Friday February 9, 2007 from 7pm to 11pm
Mad Art Gallery, 2727 S. 12th Street, STL MO 63118

New paintings, drawings, sculptures, and video that blur the
boundaries of each discipline. Gibbons and Lauderdale use common
materials and objects and transform them from the mundane to the
sacred within the context of popular western, and more precisely,
southwestern culture.

(BTW: I just got a sneak peek at the installation and there are all
kinds of Yoko Ono, anti-war, RUSH, and other pop cultural
references. Can't wait to see the final product.)

Eric Gibbons was born in 1974 in Dayton, Ohio. He came to art at an
early age drawing detailed battle scenes and football games. Having
studied art and being graduated with top honors, very little has
changed. Though his interest in football has waned, battles of all
kind still fascinate him. Gibbons' paintings have been exhibited in
solo and group exhibitions throughout Texas and in New York and
Connecticut. His work has recently been featured in New American
Paintings, Artlies, Voices of Art, and Cantanker. Gibbons has
received numerous awards and honors including a Walling-Turner prize
for painting, Vermont Studio Center Residency, I-Park Connecticut
residency, and a Best of Show award issued by Tina Kukielski of the
Whitney Museum of American Art. He enjoys playing the wind chimes,
Cy Twombly, Wayne Thiebaud, The New York Dolls, and Joni Mitchell.
He lives and works in Austin, Texas. You can see images and find

Ryan Lauderdale earned a BFA degree from the University of Texas at
Austin and has regularly exhibits throughout Texas. He lives and
works in Austin, TX.
