"Chelsea Girls" @ Pulitzer
Film Screening: Warhol's Chelsea Girls
Join us for a rare screening of Andy Warhol's iconic film Chelsea Girls, on Tuesday, May 1st at 7:30 pm.
Co-organized with Cinema St. Louis, the film will be shown in its original format, with two projections running simultaneously. The film will be screened outdoors, under the stars, in the Pulitzer's courtyard.
Chelsea Girls follows the lives of people living in the famous -and infamous- Hotel Chelsea in New York City in
the mid '60s. The film was shot in a variety of locations throughout Manhattan, including the apartment used by the influential rock band, the Velvet Underground. Many of Warhol's "superstars" are featured, including Nico, Ondine, International Velvet, and Ingrid Superstar.
Andy Warhol and co-director Paul Morrissey separated the film into 12 vignettes which are projected side-by-side. As the projectors cannot be completely synchronized, no two screenings of the film are ever the same.
The event is free and will include a reception in the courtyard, as well as an opportunity to explore the Pulitzer's exhibition, Portrait/Homage/Embodiment, and view additional works of art by Andy Warhol in the galleries.
