inexpensive road bike?

Hi all!

I'm moving to St. Louis and found you guys on a recommendation from a friend of mine. StLCAMP looks totally awesome, I can't wait to volunteer. In the meantime, I have a question -- I'm trying to find a cheap road bike to get around the city, because it's a big town and I really want to avoid buying a car. I called Maplewood and Big Shark bike shops but damn, those guys are costly!!

Do you all have any recommendations for bike shopping? Does SWEAT Bikeshop sell bikes as well as fix them up? I don't need anything fancy -- just single speed etc. Lightness and not-expensiveness are the big things.

Sorry my first posting to this forum is a buying-and-selling thing, I just thought that StLCAMP would be a good place to ask a DIY-y question like this.

Thanks!

Jay

usually don't sell bikes

SWEAT typically has kids sign up to work on fixing up an old bike over the course of a few weeks, and ultimately ride it home. They may sell surplus bikes for cheap, but not often.

You can ask SWEAT's organizer, Dann Green, directly at green(AT)commonsound(DOT)org, or subscribe to the email list:
