Upcoming small building projects?
New Backdoor
Since the backdoor keeps getting jimmied, is it finally time to replace that door, preferably with a metal-clad one? The current door is pretty thoroughly beat up, and a new door would already have holes drilled for a deadbolt. Any ideas on cost of new door from Hoods or ever Re-Store? Would we need a new door frame?
Shelves, hasp on 3024 Bathrooms.
Put up shelves in the 2 smaller 3024 bathrooms to convert them to temporary (?) supply storage closets, and install locking hasp on door of least one of them. These shelves can be made from spare parts left over from shelf hardware used for the zine library. Perhaps also put up shelves above utility sink in 3024?
More compost bins.
Pix of the CAMPoster (beta version).
The current rotating bin is full, and folks already plan on converting the spare barrel into a 2nd bin, perhaps get more barrels and make an afternoon workshop out of it? I could use a bin where I live, I gather that others would be happy to come to CAMP to build their own bin too. I'll try to draw up plans for the CAMPoster to share the worm-eaten love.
Repair broken transom window in 3022
There are some panes of plexi and glazing compound hiding out somewhere in the 3024 basement.
Hang up garden tools in basement.
All the garden tools with sharp, pointy edges sitting right by the 3024 basement door could easily be hung up on the brick wall. A hanging rack could be made from a length of 2x4 festooned with pegs made from spare dowel rod or broomsticks.
Bike rack in the back yard.
We've talked about this for ages. One proposal was to attach half of a metal futon frame to a pair of sawhorses, another was to put up a metal ring around the telephone pole. Another proposal is 5 or 6 oldoldold bike frames (with rusty wheels) from the shop, remove tires/seat/front wheel and then weld the fork of each frame to the seat stay of the next bike. This ring of welded bike frames could go around the telephone pole in the backyard.
Lights with motion sensors.
Last year we discussed putting at least one exterior flood light with motion sensor in the backyard. A dual-floodlight fixture with motion sensor sits in the 3024 basement amongst the electrical detritus.
Hang up remaining 2 ceiling fans.
There are still 2 ceiling fans in the 3022 basement. Hang them in the apartment while the exterior lights go up?
Hang Blackboards in 3024
We have 2 blackboards. One sits in 3024 1st floor, the other in 3026 basement. Wouldn't it be great to fashion hooks to hang both of these along the west wall in 3024 first floor, or in the room with bamboo floor? Because of the weight of the boards, we'd need to attach heavy-duty hooks directly to the studs/brick. Can't use wall anchors or the molding strips nailed up in 3026. Suggestion: drill holes thru the upper corners of each blackboard and hang each board from two heavy duty hooks or bolts that are fastened to the brick wall.
More Exit Signs
Install Exit Signs on each side of doorway between 3024 and 3026, the doorway without handicapped ramp. Should be able to splice (carefully) into existing conduit.
Backyard groundcover
Seed backyard with some kind of ground cover: grass, clover, or even crabgrass? Crabgrass needs no maintenance whatsoever, and it never goes away. Better yet: put down a layer of sand and then brick paving over those areas where the grass has been stomped to death. This includes the mud patch next to the rear stoop, and the path from the gate to the stoop.
Build some sort of lockable A/V cabinet.
Continue cleaning/organizing library
Complete patching wall in 3026 first floor
Hang curtains over the 3024/3022 doorway
