08/02/2007 - 11:59pm

Thursday, August 2nd

6-10 PM: DJ Warren Piece (Eric Hall) at The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis ' "Select Night". Free! 21 and up.

10 PM: Neil Hamburger, Daiquiri, and Eric Hall at The Creepy Crawl. $12. 21 and up.

Meet DJ Warren Piece (aka DJYT & Tonto and DJ Like A Light Bulb!; also one half of Stonechild & Straight-up Cocoa Butter, Spork & Poon, and Fatoush; as well as a member of Peanuts, Tard Radish, Grandpa's Ghost, etc... aka Eric Hall.)

For those of you who know my broken-radio-broadcasting-from-the-inside-of-a-womb type of electronic music, or even my hare-krishna-celebration-in-the-back-of-a-cement-truck type of acoustic music, if you have not been to a party where I'm spinning and mixing / cutting and scratching / giggling and winking, well then you have missed my guiltiest pleasure. I do live mashes of the pop songs you know all the words to, even if you wouldn't admit to it on a date. For example: when Huey Lewis, Kelis, Queen, Wu-Tang, Vangelis, Beastie Boys, Ludachris, Debbie Gibson, and Nelly all work together as a team, there is no way your ass is staying still and you aren't grinning ear to ear.

I usually reserve this for special occasions, lest DJing overtakes my original musical efforts, and what could be more special than partying in the huge contours of The Contemporary Art Museum (3750 Washington) on Bud Select's bill?

Here's what they say about the event...

"THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2007
6:00 - 10:00 pm
Come cool down at the Contemporary on our last Select Night of the summer. DJ Warren Piece spins miss-matched collisions of 80s pop, hip hop, and classic rock while VJ Evil Che provides the visuals. Enjoy ice cold Bud Select, complimentary valet, and omnivorous fare by Wolfgang Puck.
Guests must be 21 or older to enter and remember, it's okay to dance."
Admission is free, and drinks are only $2. Plus, Cole, the man who set all this up, is making sure there is not only veggie, but vegan fare available. I don't always avoid the meats myself, but I think its pretty cool this party is so accommodating.

Afterwards, you can go up the street with me to the Creepy Crawl (3524 Washington Ave) to see comedian Neil Hamburger, whom you have likely seen on The Tom Green Show, Fox News' Red Eye, Jimmy Kimmel, Adult Swim's Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, or recently headlining The Onion DC Launch Party. And he's on Drag City, the label who gave us Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Pavement, Stereolab, and Smog. So, he's got all that indie street cred working. If you don't know Hamburger's style, than I won't say anything to ruin the effect, but I promise you will not soon forget him.

Along with Daiquiri, the band joining Hamburger on his tour, I will be opening this show. But not as a DJ, as a for-real music-making guy. Not sure why I'm on this bill, but it will be one hell of a night.
This show is $12, which isn't too much to pay for the convenience of being able to just walk the whole party up there from The Contemporary. Or, maybe it is, I don't know. I didn't set the prices, man. All drinks become half price after the show, if that helps you figure your budget.

I know, thats a whole lot of me, even for me, but it will be worth it to get in on all that other stuff. And if you don't want to do any of this, Poison is playing the same night.

P.S. There are whispers of The Creepy Crawl hosting a Poison After Party that night as well, and I'm not making that up. C.C., pick up that Botox and-uh talk to me!
