St. Louis Anarchist Poster Collection

Matches & MayhemThe St. Louis Anarchist Poster Collection is a library of anarchist propaganda and art from all over the world archived at the Community Arts and Media Project's community center in St. Louis. Located at the Community Arts and Media Project and the Black Bear Bakery in St. Louis, the archive contains over 100 posters and art. Volunteers frame posters with professional quality and display them for public viewing. Our mission is to showcase a variety of ideas & activities as well as poster/propaganda styles & techniques, including photocopied, silkscreened and printed. The collection showcases the variety of anarchist ideas & activities influencing many different segments of society including art, labor, environmentalism, queers, and women. We aim to display various poster/propaganda styles & techniques, including photocopied, silkscreened and printed. We balance current material with historical, popular with obscure, English with other languages, events & actions with ideas, etc.

We are looking for anarchist art, propaganda, drivel, doodle, collage, silk screens, prints, posters, flyers, leaflets, block prints, broadsides, book, zine & album covers, etc. The material can publicize gatherings, protests, events, etc. So please send a bit of biographical information about the designers &/or back ground about the posters themselves. Who made this poster & why, how was it made, what size is it, how would you classify the style (i.e. 2 color block print), when & where is it from, what else has the designer done, background about the issue, event or action that this poster is addressing. Descriptions via e-mail or disc would be helpful.

We are also looking for donations of picture frames, glass, and other poster holding devices or cases particularly from those in the St. Louis area. All submissions are considered donations and cannot be returned.
